Ren’s life is made up of truths and lies.
Truths: Ren is Rues. Tasked with infiltrating the manor house of the prince of merchants for a coming summer raid. But he has lost his stomach for it all: the violence, his savage kinsmen, the desperation that makes monsters out of men.
Lies: The mask he wears, the title he is impersonating. But nothing can prepare him for what he finds waiting at the manor house: a feral creature in pink tulle, with a beautiful face who refuses to wear shoes. Rune is as odd as she is captivating, with eyes so dark they seem to see past his mask. But nothing is as it seems, and Ren has to wonder what secrets they keep and where all the people who should be working at the manor house are.
Truth: He begins to question his mission, his life, and fate itself as he falls. But is it too late to save her from the ruin he has woven, from the devastation the Gods themselves have shown him? Now Ren is only certain of one thing: he will give his life to save hers, but can love survive the fate and what our choices have made of us?
